“Although a placebo effect cannot be ruled out, there are some compelling reasons why this is unlikely to explain the group differences. Over half of those in the micronutrient group had been taking the formula for over 6 months, some as long as 2 years, thus making a placebo effect unlikely.”

Rucklidge, J., et al., Micronutrients reduce stress and anxiety following a 7.1 earthquake in adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Psychiatry Res. (2011), doi: 10.1016/j.psychres.2011.06.016

New EMPowerplus Research: Micronutrients Reduce Stress and Anxiety Following a 7.1 Earthquake in Adults with ADHD

In September 2010, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand. Damage to personal property, as well as sewer, water, and power systems, was widespread. The earthquake took place during ongoing studies being conducted at the University of Canterbury, which were assessing adults with ADHD. Researchers had acquired baseline data from all participants before the earthquake hit. This provided an opportunity to research the impact of a real-life stressor on participants who were taking EMPowerplus compared to participants who were not.

At the time of the earthquake, 16 of the people included in the study were taking only EMPowerplus (on average, 13 capsules/day), while 17 others were not taking EMPowerplus. Both groups were similar to each other with regards to gender, marital status, age, IQ, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and levels of personal loss and injury from the earthquake.

After the earthquake, researchers followed up with these participants using a questionnaire that assessed each participant’s current emotional state—focusing on levels of stress, depression, and anxiety. The questionnaire was administered twice after the onset of the earthquake; participants were first contacted 7-10 days after the earthquake and again 7-10 days after the first questionnaire was administered.

The results from the second questionnaire revealed that those taking EMPowerplus exhibited a significant reduction in anxiety and stress that was approximately 6 times greater than the reduction exhibited in the control group.
