Join the author of A Promise of Hope, Autumn Stringam, and her husband Dana on Breakfast TV, as they tell the story of their family’s rescue from a long history of mental illness.
“In high school I was kind of crutching through on the ups and downs,” Autumn says, “when I was low I couldn’t function in school and when I was high I did really well, so I kind of got through that way. But during the years that I was medicated, I really couldn’t function, I couldn’t read or write well.”
After years of mania and depression, Autumn started taking vitamins and minerals. “I stopped hallucinating on the second or third day. I had this weird symptom, I would have a hole that would open up in my chest, and just super vulnerable feelings when I was nearing the height of mania, and I was rapid cycling at that point, so it was just up and down all day long…That stopped.”
Autumn has been well and drug-free for more than 12 years now. Dana describes what it’s like to have back the beautiful, vibrant girl he married: “Oh man, it is absolutely incredible! It's what I always dreamed of, or what we dreamed of together…We have three beautiful girls that we never thought we would have…And so to have that now, we have to give back…We feel like we have to talk about things.”
